room of the day

The soft blues and creams in this bedroom by Tobi Fairley are so pretty and restful. It's a traditional space, but the graphic wallpaper, rug, and overscale floral give it a modern edge and elevate the subdued color palette. When you're working with a neutral, or monochromatic scheme, interest is created through layers of pattern and texture (notice the stubtle shine of the nailheads on the headboard, the frame and hardware?). Blue is a cool color so I love how she chose a wood chest - it really warms the space up. Have a pretty day!

wedding inspiration: peacock + acid yellow

I was flipping through Real Simple Weddings at the grocery store and was drawn to their suggestion for a peacock blue, acid yellow and white color palette. The bridesmaids dresses below are more cerulean than peacock but either way it's such a fun, fresh and modern combo, don't you think?

inspiration {mom's new bedroom}

We're giving my mom's bedroom a little makeover - fresh paint, refinished hardwood floors, new bedding, art and accessories. She loves blue (and our entire house is blue) so we're going to stick with it. I'm loving a quiet, restful palette of subdued blues, grays, creams and whites (with hopefully a little pop of color in there somewhere). Her style is a little bit country (no more red gingham, sorry!) so I'd like to do layers of textures and patterns in the bedding and an interesting vintage piece or two. We starting by painting the walls Martha Stewart's Heavy Goose (below). It's a very soft blue-gray color and SO pretty, I love it. (Her new line is great by the way - one coat covered beautifully). Here are a few images that I'm using for inspiration...

cocktail hour {the blues}

The weather is beautiful, but the week seems to be dragging along. In the hopes of beating the mid-week blues (and in keeping with our devotion to color this month), here's to a little eye candy and one really blue cocktail recipe!

blue lagoon

- 1 1/2 oz vodka
- 1 1/2 oz blue curacao
- lemonade

Fill a highball glass with ice. Add vodka and curacao. Top with lemonade and serve.

more blue in march

Where oh where is my March issue of Elle Decor? Looks like it's going to be a good one...

house beautiful {march 2010}

The March edition of HB is all about blue. Blue is one of my favorite colors so I was psyched to see this cover in my mailbox...

My favorite images were of the mostly neutral rooms with hints of blue/blue-green in the paint, accessories or tile.
