I only watched Design Star sporadically this season, but made sure to tune in for last night's finale and am psyched that Emily is this season's winner. I liked Emily's fun and carefree personality and vintage/modern design aesthetic from the start and I think she'll be a much needed breath of fresh air at HGTV. As a professional prop stylist for Domino, Martha Stewart Living and Real Simple, everything she touches is gorgeous, and I love her idea of doing a show which incorporates a persons style into their lifestyle. designer {sarah richardson}

I watched an episode of Sarah's House (hosted by designer Sarah Richardson) the other night on HGTV and was really impressed by the design she came up with for this basement level guest room. I love the color palette of black, white and green - the white keeps everything bright (plus I adore white bedding) and the green keeps it fresh and happy.

She re-upholstered the chair (above) in white denim and painted the dresser to match. She bought both pieces at an auction - the dresser was only $70!
