everytime a new season is approaching, i like to compile a little wishlist of the things i would love to have in my closet. since i'm not made of money, (hardly any actually), it doesn't mean i'll buy everything on my list, but it gets me excited about creating new outfits to accomodate the changing weather. here are a few of my favorites for spring...

banana republic jewelry

i've always been really bad at buying jewelry for myself because i've never been able to find pieces that are long-lasting but inexpensive. i have a hard time spending a lot of money on jewelry for myself so i end up buying cheapo jewelry that looks nice but falls apart in about a week. during one of my weekly jaunts to banana republic, i found myself standing in front of their jewelry counter and ended up buying a pair of earrings and a ring. i will admit that the only reason i bought anything at all is because they were having a sale but that's beside the point! i have gotten so many compliments on the two pieces i bought and i think that they really do look glamorous and expensive even though they weren't. lesson learned: don't be afraid to spend a little money on yourself because you deserve it (and by the way, banana's jewelry isn't even that expensive...i'm just that cheap).

pictures from brimfield yesterday!

The Brimfield Antique Show was SO fun. We were there for 5 hours and barely covered a tenth of it, the show is so big. I can't wait to go back in July & September. Here's a look at some of the stuff I found:

I bought several pieces of vintage (and newer) jewelry. Each piece was $10 or less...

and I bought 3 super old keys (each for $1), which I will be using to make a necklace...

and I bought this vintage pocket timepiece, which is absolutely FABULOUS (another shot below). I plan to attach it to a longgg necklace chain...

lastly, I bought a vintage, olive green filing cabinet...

which, I'm hoping will look great in my new bedroom/office...

(some inspiration items for the project)

I did buy one other piece... but it will have to remain a mystery until next week.  Stay tuned!

also known as love...

akawelle, translated into also known as love, is a jewelry line established by 16 year old lovetta conto, a liberian refugee who literally turned lemons into lemonade by using the violence in her native liberia as inspiration for a jewelry line she established through the strongheart fellowship. she uses shell casings found all over the ground as part of her material to create beautiful and unique necklaces. it's these types of stories that make me want to eschew large corporations and buy local or support small business owners and entrepreneurs. go here to learn more about this amazing and inspiring story.
