interior inspiration

ralph lauren home is such a great website to go to when looking for inspiration. today i'm not feeling very girly so these images really appeal to me...it's a mix of the french riviera with a little bit of louis xvi.

best of the web

the editors at instyle have compiled a list of over 200 web sites for the november issue; the best of the best in fashion, beauty, interior design and inspirational blogs...sadly, ours didn't make it :) you can find the full list in the issue, which i definitely recommend!

industrial interiors

there is a great article in the globe about restaurants and stores that are beginning to use sustainable furniture and salvaged accessories increasingly more, especially with the economic downturn. the use of flea market materials, scrap lumber, and other old, once useless items create homey spaces that fit in more than sleek and modern spaces that may intimidate rather than inspire.

worth checking out

1st dibs, an online retailer which specializes in compiling antique and luxury clothing, home furnishings and jewelry from around the country. the dress below is a vintage christian dior circa 1960. for any vintage lover, this is a really cool website and even though i don't have the budget to afford thousand dollar dresses, i can still dream and it's fun to get lost in the past for a little bit!

surfer chic

the surf lodge in montauk, ny which was recently highlighted on style.com is a beachy and bohemian locale for surfers who are looking for great waves and a laid back, yet "international taste level and an underlying energy". i have been aching to learn how to surf for years now and this looks like a perfect spot to begin my surfing career! the vintage feel of the lodge combined with a tastefully done interior make this a place i would definitely like to check out sometime this summer.

books, books and more books

karl lagerfeld had it right when he said "books are a hard-bound drug with no danger of an overdose. i am the happy victim of books." for me, there's something about books that is reassuring; i know that if i'm in a bad mood i can go to my local bookstore and peruse the shelfs and instantly feel better. maybe it's because books can transport you and it's fun to get lost in someone else's world for a few hours.

these are some great pictures i have found of home libraries, which is something i know i will have one day in my own house filled with books from around the world and every genre. and i know my mom is probably laughing right now if she is reading this because i won't have my own house for quite a while but a girl can dream!

everything old is new again

i love the idea of salvaging old furniture and dressing it up for a mix of old and new...i know lindsey is working on doing some version of this for her bedroom/office remodel and i'm excited to see the finished result which will hopefully be posted soon!
