beach house kitchens

Casual and pretty, these spaces are far from overdone. This is one of my favorite things about beach houses. I love in these designs how the nautical elements are simple - a toy ship, a piece of art or a sign - and I especially love all the bright white!

wish list for MV

I'm officially moving to Martha's Vineyard for the summer! I'll be working as an assistant for an interior design studio and sustainable furniture company and I'm thrilled that I get to do it in such a beautiful coastal location. Housing on the Vineyard in the summer is very pricey but I was lucky to find a reasonable converted garage space in a home outside of downtown Edgartown. Now I'm dreaming of the white and natural linens, washed out blues and nautical-inspired art and photography that I will get to decorate it with. Here's some inspiration (image 1 and 2 from coastal living) and a few things on my (home) wish list:

dash & albert woven cotton rug

pretty cotton linens from plover organic

storage bags from ikea

coastal living

Today's post at a finer day got me thinking about the ocean and all things nautical. I dream about one day owning a tiny, but gorgeous cottage on (or close to) the beach. I could live there year round, on the porch in the summer, by the fire in the winter. It would be amazing. Until then I have to feed my craving by visiting friends houses and enjoying all the nautical inspiration in the magazines and blogs right now. There are so many bold - or subtle - design choices you can make to bring a little bit of the beach to your home - regardless of it's location. Here's some of my favorites:
