mixed media gallery wall

I've always loved this mixed media gallery wall from Domino...

And my roommate and I have been brainstorming some ideas for our apartment. Here are a few images I'm loving together:

{living} room of the day

I still adore Michelle Adams' old NYC apartment. Her small space solutions are genius and I love all the coral accents.

room of the day

I'm in love with this casual-chic living room. The colors are very serene and muted, and the textures and patterns in the throw pillows and drapes provide interest. I could see any one of my young professional (female) friends living here (or me, of course).

cocktail hour {g + t's}

My boyfriend is a big fan of gin and tonics (or g and t's as he likes to call them). I'm more of a vodka-soda girl, but there is something so refreshing about a g and t with fresh lime in the summertime. I love this simple recipe from the food network made with tonic ice cubes.

the perfect gin + tonic

- 4 to 5 tonic water ice cubes
- 3 oz gin
- 4 oz tonic water
- 1 tbsp fresh lime juice
- lime wedge for garnish

Place ice cubes* in a tall, narrow glass. Add the gin, tonic water and lime juice, stir well. Garnish with a lime wedge and serve immediately.

*To make the tonic ice cubes: fill an empty ice cube tray with tonic water and let cubes freeze for several hours. Covered well, the cubes will stay fresh in the freezer for a few weeks. Sidenote: I think limeade ice cubes would be perfect in this as well.

room of the day {office}

I will forever love this office because of it's killer black walls and the casual way that it's put together - it would be hard NOT to be creative if you worked in a space like this everyday...

speaking of antiques...

The Brimfield Antique Show is coming up and I told my boyfriend that all I want for my 25th birthday is for him to take the day off and go with me (esp since C will be away on the 12th!). I went for the first time last year and it was awesome. This year will be even better since we need furniture for our new apartment and for a couple of other projects that I'm working on. I reeeeally want a cool console table that I can fix up - such as this one from Domino (scanned via the Domino Book of Decorating). Brimfield is the largest outdoor antiques show in the world and this years dates are May 11-16, July 13-18, and September 7-12.

bright on white

I love this cute striped chair (the L'An V Marquise from Roche Bobois) and it got me thinking about color... and specifically all white painted rooms that encourage vibrant furniture, fabric and accessories to really pop. Too much color can be overwhelming but when backed by crisp white walls and trim, a mix of brights can be fun, fresh and modern.

A few fun bright furniture pieces and accessories:

domino nostalgia

Was flipping through Domino's 2008 gift guide (a year later) and of course loved everything... especially this tartan cape. How super cute would this be with skinny jeans and a great pair of boots for the holidays????

textile tuesday

Inspired by trips to Turkey and Uzbekistan, Martyn Lawrence-Bullard's first fabric line blends traditional designs with contemporary color palettes. There are seven patterns (Sultan's Suzanni, Bodrum, Sultan's Garden and Bodrum Stripe, shown,) all printed on beautiful Irish Linen. I love these used for pillows/bench cushions on built-ins in an outdoor space. I'm thinking pergola... candle lanterns... huge planters w/tons of greenery and flowers... layered rugs...

the magazine archives

As the piles of magazines in my apartment continue to grow, I remain on the lookout for fun ideas on how to store them. I currently subscribe to 5 magazines, and I definitely can't part with my old issues of Domino, so what's a girl to do?

embrace creating piles such as these - via design sponge

use vintage boxes to display them - via domino

or my favorite - display them on the wall as art!

rooms inspired by outfits

I loved Domino's "can this outfit be turned into a room?" series. Now that the magazine is no longer (p.s. I'm devastated!) I've been thinking of ways to create my own version. For now, though, here are a few of my favorites:

I couldn't find March's photo - menswear accessories with an army green pencil skirt and white collared shirt transformed into an understated bedroom with white linens, vintage rug + chair and olive green surplus blanket - but it's absolutely fabulous. I may just use it for inspiration to re-do my space...
