The soft blues and creams in this bedroom by Tobi Fairley are so pretty and restful. It's a traditional space, but the graphic wallpaper, rug, and overscale floral give it a modern edge and elevate the subdued color palette. When you're working with a neutral, or monochromatic scheme, interest is created through layers of pattern and texture (notice the stubtle shine of the nailheads on the headboard, the frame and hardware?). Blue is a cool color so I love how she chose a wood chest - it really warms the space up. Have a pretty day!

a dreamy bedroom

Decorating my bedroom has been my last priority, but I might be getting a new bed this week (!) so I'm hoping that I will finally be able to make it beautiful. I'm torn in a thousand directions about what to do, but am forever in love with a soothing palette of white, gray and blue:

home tour {designer lindsey bond}

I'm obsessed with designer Lindsey Bond's bright, modern and chic 1950's Birmingham, Alabama, cottage (featured in the new October issue of House Beautiful). I love the palette and how she's cleverly installed wall mounted shelves in several places to eliminate the need for a lot of bulky furniture. Also, the drapery is the same throughout, which Lindsey says, "adds softness and height, but also creates order through repetition." I love how she's used the curtains in other places besides the windows - to frame the living room/dining room, hide her closet door and to create a more modern take on a canopy.

I'm in love with this casual-chic living room. The colors are very serene and muted, and the textures and patterns in the throw pillows and drapes provide interest. I could see any one of my young professional (female) friends living here (or me, of course).

I heart Canadian House & Home - it's always in my mailbox before the others and the issues never disappoint. I am especially smitten with this Lake Simcoe cottage owned and decorated by stylist, Jenn Cranston (from the June 2010 issue). Her vision for a peaceful palette of white and creams is really beautiful and she pulled it all together on a budget. I dream about having a place like this someday...

inspiration {mom's new bedroom}

We're giving my mom's bedroom a little makeover - fresh paint, refinished hardwood floors, new bedding, art and accessories. She loves blue (and our entire house is blue) so we're going to stick with it. I'm loving a quiet, restful palette of subdued blues, grays, creams and whites (with hopefully a little pop of color in there somewhere). Her style is a little bit country (no more red gingham, sorry!) so I'd like to do layers of textures and patterns in the bedding and an interesting vintage piece or two. We starting by painting the walls Martha Stewart's Heavy Goose (below). It's a very soft blue-gray color and SO pretty, I love it. (Her new line is great by the way - one coat covered beautifully). I love when antiques and vintage items are used in conjunction with more modern pieces and textiles. They create interest and individuality in a space that could otherwise end up looking too 'cookie-cutter'. Designer Jill Brinson's library is a good example... I like how she's used crewel upholstered walls as a backdrop for the French writing table and old Polish factory shelves. The space is neutral, but not boring, which keeps with the rest of this Atlanta home.

Ahh so pretty and relaxing. And such a beautiful headboard - it adds a lot of interest to this very neutral bedroom. And I'm always a sucker for white bedding. Have a lovely weekend!
