the new suit

what type of message are your clothes sending? that's the question this month's issue of harper's bazaar aims to answer. the return of the suit, and tailored clothes in general, may seem a little off-putting with talk about recession and job losses but according to antonio berardi,

"tailoring is power. a woman in a man's suit is the
embodiment of authority, of control, of strength, and
simultaneously a confirmation of all that is chic,
especially now. it always comes to the fore in challenging times.
look what happened after the crash in 1929. hepburn and dietrich
both championed the trouser and made it acceptable."

above all, the message the article is sending is that wearing tailored clothes lends a powerful feeling to the wearer, but only if the characteristics come naturally. the way you put everything together determines whether the investment is going to pay off. "the rules have relaxed and women can really express their individual style," says phillip lim and with so many different versions of the suit this season, it won't be very hard to do that.
